Money in the 1960s

Inflation began to pick up. The pound was devalued again in 1967, and Britain prepared for decimal money: the half crown was withdrawn at the end of 1969.

Prices rose about 40% between 1960 and 1969. These figures compare the cost of everyday goods and services. Wages, house prices and the size of the economy all grew at different rates, so a 1960s salary or fortune would look bigger still if compared with what people earn or own today.
